St. Therese of Lisieux: Day 7

*This story is the seventh of a 9-day series on St. Therese's promise of sending a shower of roses after her death. And sometimes, roses aren't even needed.

More often than not, I pray to St. Therese for guidance (as I do not know what's best for me) rather than a specific request for something to happen.

I've been struggling with the issue of pride after a very painful experience. I was deeply hurt and saddened by a dear friend who suddenly unloaded her years-long anger and resentment for me. All those years I had no clue that she was harboring such ill feelings.

I prayed to Jesus and St. Therese for guidance: What do I do next? I tried to understand what could have caused the person to feel that way towards me. As I moved on, I felt

St. Therese whispering to me the word humility. I hesitated at first, but then finally called the friend to clarify things. Nothing of what I said seemed to appease her feelings. I wrote her a letter of apology and prayed unceasingly.

One day, I received a package in the mail - a mug with a St. Therese decor! It was our son who thought I would enjoy using the cup for my hot chocolate. There was no occasion, just a thoughtful gift. I believe that St. Therese was supporting me in what I was doing.

Though the person has forgiven me, she has decided to distance herself. As for me, I now have peace knowing that I have done everything I can to bridge the chasm.

Not everything in this world can be how we want it to be. As long as there is peace, all will be well.
