On Distractions

Many years ago, Ted Koppel, the well-respected anchor of Nightline, was asked what his most unforgettable reporting was. He said he has had quite a few but there was one story that stood out.

He said that he covered a story about a man who was sentenced to death, and on the day of his execution, his entire family was there at the facility to witness the event.

Soon after the lethal dose was given, and the man was pronounced dead, the family invited Ted for a picture with family members all smiling for a photo shoot. As if it were a joyful event.

He could not understand how something like that could happen.

Isn’t it quite easy to be distracted?

Let us remember John the Baptist whose feast day we celebrate today. A person who never got distracted from his mission to prepare the way of the Lord.
