On Sunday Best

Walking to Sunday mass, I overheard a family discussing their choice of clothes for church.

“What’s important is going to mass, not the clothes,” came the children’s united front.

Days went by and I thought about the logic of going to mass in our Sunday best.

If we were to have an audience with the state governor, or maybe just have an interview with a potential employer, would we not present our best selves?

Shouldn’t we be presenting our best selves when we are actually going to meet with our Lord at mass?

Though Jesus is not about what’s on the outside, I believe the outside reflects a lot of what is going on inside.

What do you think?
