St. Therese of Lisieux: Day 5

Writer: Anna Maria De GuidAnna Maria De Guid

*This story is the fifth of a 9-day series on St. Therese's promise of helping those in need manifested mostly through a shower of roses.

As far back as I can remember, October 1 has almost always been a special day for me knowing that it is St. Therese's feast day. Though I don't make elaborate plans to celebrate her feast day (outside of lighting a special candle, saying special prayers, and sending out St. Therese posts to family and friends), I carry her consciously in my heart during the day. For some reason, there is always a rose that comes to my attention, and this leads me to think that St. Therese is making her presence felt.

Two years ago, there was no indication of a rose or anything close to resembling a rose on October 1. At around 10 p.m. in the evening, I prayed, "St. Therese, your feast day is almost over, and I have not seen your rose. Nevertheless, I hope you can see my heart that is full of joy for you."

Within the next 15 minutes, a friend whom I have not communicated in years sent me a text: "Maria, I just had to send you this picture before the day's done."

It was a beautiful red rose.

I knew that St. Therese heard my heart's longing.
