A Christmas Tradition

Lola (Grandma) Angelica died on Christmas Day. All I can remember was that Mom came home crying.

Grandma’s first death anniversary was solemnly celebrated with mass and dinner on the evening of Christmas Day. The following year, it was the same celebration, but with young children singing Christmas carols. Each year, we added something new to the occasion.

Today, grandma’s death anniversary has evolved into a huge family reunion that's spans almost four decades and is still going strong.

What was once a somber event has blossomed into a beautiful tradition that's withstood time.

In life, we can choose to allow tragedy to hold us back or we can move forward to what can be a beautiful possibility.
