On Wanting to Know All

Updated: Sep 27, 2020

I believe most people want to know what's in store for them in the future. Wouldn't it be nice to pinpoint precisely when Covid will be contained, so we can start planning our lives when things get back to normal?

One option is fortune-telling. It encompasses astrology, cartomancy, and palmistry, to name a few.

My first recollection of this was in elementary school when I learned that a neighbor could tell my future. In college, relatives and friends invited me to go to an astrologist who read our palms and tarot cards, and there was no hesitancy going.

Little did I know then that these practices are not in line with our Catholic beliefs. Could it be that Adam and Eve's downfall was due to their desire to know everything? The snake knew exactly how to entice them to eat from the Tree of Knowledge.

So how do we know the future?

We don't. We can listen to and feel the signs of the times. Then we can put our full trust in Jesus, who will be with us whatever happens.
