Feast of St. Charbel

Someone told me that sometimes, saints choose people.

I was flying back to the U.S. when I sat beside a very religious and spiritual lady. We got to talking about saints, and she mentioned to me a Saint Charbel. "Who?" I never heard of the name. She said he is one of the most prolific miracle makers of modern times.

The following week in L.A., an aunt shared with me her book The Incorruptibles. It is a book about saints whose bodies did not decompose after death. I opened the book randomly, and the page opened to, guess who? St. Charbel! I soon googled him and learned that he is from Lebanon and is one of the many unnoticed religious. It was after his death when a mysterious light surrounded his coffin and a mysterious secretion from his body that was said to be miraculous led many to pray to him.

One of his famous miracles was to have cured a paralyzed woman. In her dream, the woman saw St. Charbel operate on her neck, and the next day, she could walk! Then she saw the marks on her neck where St. Charbel operated on her. The following evening, she again dreamed of St. Charbel, who told her that he performed the miracle to increase people's faith.

Today, we celebrate the feast of this holy saint, who no one really knew because his monastic life was uneventful. No one even remembered his face as he always held his hooded head down. But as we already know, to Jesus, it is the heart that really matters.
